The depreciation of a car can often be the highest cost associated with running it, meaning you end up losing a hefty amount of money. In this blog we have picked out some cars that, according to VIP Data, hold their value the best. This list will be very helpful when it comes to buying a new car as the depreciation of some cars is shocking. For example, the Vauxhall Insignia automatic with a 2.0T engine will cost you around £30,500 but after three years, if you want to sell the car, you would get a measly £6,400. This means the car would only be worth 21 per cent of what you originally paid for it, brand new. In a previous blogs we gave tips on buying a new car so here is another thing to think about when purchasing your new vehicle…

Range Rover SUV

The Range Rover SUV boasts the title of Best Luxury Car 2013 and this is all down to its innovative design. The SUV is stylish, sophisticated and comfortable, but most of all it is incredibly practical and perfect for almost anything due to it being a 4×4. Furthermore, as it’s a 4×4 it holds its value better than most other vehicles. The 4.4 litre SDV8 engine holds 62.1 per cent of its value after 3 years and 36,000 miles which is astonishing compared to the Vauxhall Insignia. The car is priced between £75,950 and £146,890 which is a lot of money but at least you won’t be losing as much as with some other cars.

The SUV costs between £17,500 and £29,505 and is a practical car which is great for the school run.

Audi A1 Hatchback

This car may have a high price tag but that is due to the fact that it keeps its value better than any other car of its size. The car looks slick and slightly sporty, however the best model is the 1.6 litre TDI SE 3 door model which does 74.3mpg and emits only 99g/km CO2. The Audi A1 keeps 55.1 per cent of its price after 3 years and 36,000 miles and costs between £14, 100 and 25, 000.
